Roots and Wings Care is a small, family-style children's home in Castle Gresley, giving looked-after children the stability, warmth and consistency they need to thrive — and the confidence to build a future of their own.
We believe children who've experienced disruption need the opposite of more change: predictable routines, staff who stay, and a home that feels like one — not an institution.
Every member of staff understands the impact of loss, disruption and adverse experience — and responds with patience, not punishment.
We keep our home small so every child is known well — by name, by story, and by what helps them feel safe on a hard day.
Stability is the start, not the destination. We plan for school, for friendships, for hobbies, and for the adult each child is becoming.
The foundation every child needs before anything else can be built.
Once a child feels safe, we help them build the life ahead of them.
Set in a quiet residential area of Castle Gresley, our home has been carefully prepared to feel warm and lived-in rather than clinical — with the space, privacy and comfort every child is entitled to.
Roots and Wings Care is being built by a small, hands-on leadership team — not a distant head office.
Founder of Roots and Wings Care and its Responsible Individual, accountable for the quality and safety of the home to Ofsted and to placing authorities.
Leads the day-to-day running of the home and the staff team, with direct responsibility for the care and welfare of every child placed with us.
We're currently completing our registration with Ofsted. We welcome early conversations with placing authorities so we can plan around the needs of the children you're supporting.
Contact Simon Hackett to discuss a child's needs, our Statement of Purpose, and whether we'd be a good fit.
We consider each referral against the needs we're able to meet safely and well — we'd rather say no than say yes and fall short.
Where we can help, we work with you and the child to make the move into our home as settled and unrushed as possible.
Every member of our team is safely recruited, DBS-checked, and trained in safeguarding before working with children. Any concern about a child's welfare is treated as a priority, without exception. If you're worried about a child's immediate safety, please contact the police on 999, or your local authority children's services.
